Loudoun Elite Beach Volleyball FAQ

Do you have to be a part of Loudoun Elite to participate in their Beach Club Program? Anyone can try out regardless of what club they play for or even if they don’t play for any!

What happens if there is bad weather? Practice will always be happening unless we issue a cancellation message. If it rains practice is still on. It will only cancel if there is thunder/lightning or nonstop heavy rain happening.  When you compete in tournaments, they will only be postponed due to very bad weather. Playing in the elements is also part of the game.

Are there age groups or teams for beach club? There is no age group or teams. Everything is training and it doesn't matter what age you are. It is based on skill and you’ll train with girls similar to your skill level.

My indoor season is still going on, can I try out for your beach club? Yes, anyone can try out even if they are still participating in the indoor season. The goal is to get the girls getting touches early on so they are ready to compete in beach tournaments. We are very aware many girls will have both going on in the beginning of beach club season.

Can you play beach volleyball in College? Yes, it is becoming one of the fastest growing sports and there are many scholarship opportunities to continue playing in college while getting an education.

Is it mandatory to go to every practice and inform you of being late/missing? It is not required to attend any practice and you are allowed to enter as many or as little tournaments as you prefer. If you are going to be late or miss you also don’t need to inform us because it is your choice to attend the training.

Why play beach volleyball? As a beach player, you need to be able to do all the skills on the court. You become a much more well rounded player while also becoming a better conditioned athlete. There is no worry about playing time as you'll be contacting the ball every rally with no substitutions.

Do you need beach volleyball experience to try out? Nope! No prior beach experience is needed, however it is recommended that you have played volleyball in some capacity before.

What age group will I compete in for tournaments? There are no 13s, 15s, or 17s for tournaments. The girls will have to play up for example 13s would play 14s and 15s would have to play 16s. The girls are allowed to play as high up as they like as well. They can even compete in adult women’s tournaments too.

Do the girls get partners at practice? You are allowed to choose whoever you want to play with, regardless of age or even if they play at our club. You can also switch your partner every tournament if you want. The player will decide their partners and we recommend talking to many of the players you train with to see if you would be a good fit together.

Is your partner solidified for the entire season? You can change your partner whenever you want at any tournament.

How and who registers for the beach tournaments? It is the player and parents responsibility to register for tournaments they wish to compete in. The Loudoun Elite staff will help with the learning process & any questions that arise. You’ll use different websites depending on the tournament they wish to enter. The websites will be attached on our travel page for beach.

Are hotels necessary for tournaments? It is up to the player and families discretion if they would like to get a hotel. Many tournaments are one day events and can be driven there and back on the same day.

What is the difference between Beach volleyball and Indoor volleyball? The main differences are you play 2v2 to games to 21 typically. The court is smaller than indoor and you’ll use a beach specific volleyball instead. Setting is called much differently, and there are no subs. You'll switch sides every 7 total points scored.

What is the practice/tournament attire for beach volleyball? For practice you can wear spandex or shorts, along with a tank top or t-shirt. For tournaments the rules typically follow this pattern but can vary depending on the tournament.

Is there anything you need for beach volleyball practice & tournaments? We recommend always having plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and snacks. For tournaments, have a beach towel, umbrella for shade, and a chair as well. A change of clothes as well and possibly sand socks.
